Well, with the KokoMaoists  Shocked loose on other boards its not safe to stick your head up without getting it knocked off by a Sunkist Beach Ball or a 45 year old, 10'6", decayed Velzy with GT racing stripes. Better to keep quite than suffer the wrath of the "global moderator".

But ultimately, message boards about rock bands are so 90s.

So does that mean this board will be making it's nostalgia-fueled comeback in about 5 years?

Wow -- the roaring silence.

I think Text's comment about message boards being largely passe is right on.  I came a little late to the internet (late 90s) and was a kid in a candy shop with all the BB (and other stuff) discussion.  The other few boards I visit seem to be in a similar state.  Everything has been discussed, though I do think if something new happens we'll show up to talk about it.  But  internet behavior trends like everything else  -- I find most people don't respond to email the way they used to either.  All aTwitter.

As for the personality and personalities of this board -- I'm guessing folks would just use that as an excuse (or reason) to fade away.  Every thing has a season.

Pretty much spot on Aum.

It was all so sudden but I think its been a while....funny thing is most of my sons Uni friends never use Twitter.....they just text everything.....

Facebook has become naff but some use it....I still see a place for n=boards as they provide a more permanent record of converstions and info. I use one calle AVforums for home entertainment stuff and that place is always heaving with people. Same with overclockers which is mad with PC upgraders and the like...maybe its true...the subject matter is almost exhausted on this board...and other BB boards.....all great things and all that

I read the boards all the time... on this board I'm not usually signed in because I don't really have anything meaningful to contribute. I still love reading other fans insights into the music. It is what it is...

I'm the same way; I still read the board and enjoy the posts. Unfortunately, there isn't much new to talk about. The Beach Boys' last new album of original material was 1992, and the only solo albums have been by Brian, which I find uninteresting, except for the controversial BWPS. And I guess that album (BWPS) sums it up for me. It doesn't take much to get me stirred up at any time; I like a good debate, and I have a tendency to repeat things, so message boards give me a chance to vent. So, if an interesting, controversial topic comes up - I'm there! Grin

I’m still here and hoping the activity picks up a bit again, - but not too much.  Actually one reason I have liked this board is that it is not too active.  There is a personal touch.  I feel a little bit connected with you other regulars and that is more important than how many there are.  I feel that sometimes my posting might be considered by a person or 2.  I also like the Steve Hoffman board but it is so active, that it seems like there is not much point in taking the time to make a thoughtful post.  In a few minutes it will be far behind in the rear view mirror.  It’s often hard to even find a thread there again the next day without a significant search because it is likely on page 6, 7, or 8.  If you ask, for example,   “What are the essential Dylan albums for me to start with?”  literally EVERY Dylan album will be mentioned in a post within a few hours.  That’s a lot of response, but you are back at square one.
In regards to Shutdown, When you think about it, is there any other board based on a group formed 49 years ago that is more active? -  and that has “current news” that is actually related to original member musical activities now?  We who are interested in the BB’s are very lucky that there are 2 current groups out there touring and one of them (or their leader anyway) is actually still making new albums.  That is a profound thing and we probably take it a little for granted at times.  Anyway, as long as there’s "here",  I think I’m sticking around.  Thanks!

Since I see you here-I think it was you who told me about an early 1964 Portland, OR show you saw or heard about.  I found ads for the show-it was May 23 1964

It IS more of a community spirit here...we have our rows, our periods where we go our own way but like mikee I feel comfortable here....hope it doesn't fade away....even juts remaining as that "community" thing

I'm still here...i don't visit every day, but i try.  I feel fortunate that the board runs and polices itself; it doesn't need me here every day.

As for Mikie, he punched his own ticket out.  I don't know if he still reads or not, but he blatantly broke the rules once too often.  Last time i banned him, i think it was for about 6 months.  This time?  Forever, or until i change my mind.  I do hope the rest of you will continue to stop in and post, however; you are the reason i keep paying the bills.

I was involved with a Joni Mitchell board in the early '00s and it was very active. And could be very contentious as well. But it also proved to be a rather compassionate community. When my best friend, who was also a frequent contributor to the board, killed herself I felt it proper to let the board know about it. The response was massive in its concern for my friend and what had happened. I thought it was quite extraordinary for a group of people from all over, the great majority of whom had never met.
