Pretty solid, but totally inconsequential.  Nothing that stands up to over-playing in the way that Pet Sounds does.  It seems to be the kind of thing that, if Brian and the band were on a constant even keel (especially Brian who's in surprisingly good voice comapred to the previous LP), they'd keep churning out over and over again- the late-era equivalent to their 60s converyor belt efforts.

Some great b-list tunes, some near-classics with Pitter Patter topping the list, but nothing of note.  Sweet Sunday Kinda Love reminds me of The Carpenters, and if anyone but Carl had sung it, it would have been terrible.

I gave it a 5.  I quite like Pitter Patter, Kona Coast and Peggy Sue...but there are tunes there that just make me 'feel to heave'.  So balancing out the good with the bad...5 seems about right.  By this time the group was operating without much in the way of creativity...or balls. [a glaring lack of testicular content]   Good thing they already had me as a fan...'cause this album really wouldn't have drawn me in.

Don't like it except for My Diane and Pitter Patter.  The interpretation of the oldies add nothing to the songs.  The rest are awful, although Winds of Change was potentially interesting - and is, if you have the version where Al sounds less like Kermit the Frog. The glossy production just serves to emphasise how empty most of the songs are. Pity, because they had some better stuff around that could've made the album half decent.

Mostly Mike and Alan's album, and a poor one at that. Sunday Kind of Love is nice, Kona Coast is catchy, but most of the rest leaves me cold.

A 1 & 1/2. Since I don't own Still Cruisin or Summer In Paradise, this is the worst Beach Boys album I've ever heard.
Good tracks:
She's Got Rhythm (stupid song but I love Brian's giddy falsetto)
Wontcha Come Out Tonight (sweet song that's nearly ruined by Mike Love and those annoying high pitched "a-come come come out toniiight" bg vocals)
My Diane (far and away the best song here.)

Pitter Patter is okay, I guess, depending on my mood.

Everything else is awful, especially Match Point of our Love and my least favorite BBs song ever, the lecherous Hey Little Tomboy. GARBAGE.

One of their worst albums.  Most of the songs could have been left with the Christmas songs that were recorded at the same time.  I hardly ever listen to it, and when I do, I rarely get all the way through it.

At first I disliked MIU because it was cheesey like a bad Sha-Na-Na album (not a good Sha-Na-Na album like 'Hot Sox'). I was a bit embarrased to play 'Hey Little Tomboy' around friends. Actually I never play MIU around friends unless it's requested (never is).

Nowadays I like listening to MIU for whatever reason. I actually really love 'Matchpoint Of Our Love'. It even made it onto one of my new mixes. I still don't like the cover songs (Come Go With Me and Peggy Sue).

To me it's just as good as 15 Big Ones.

yeah...i'm not really a fan of the covers on that album.....and quite frankly....i really don't like it when Al takes lead.....i'll tell you why.......he sings well, in tune...and everything...but if you listen closely....he sings really textbook....i don't know...he has NO feeling when he sings.....there's no soul in it.....he sings like he was given a list of notes to hit...and he's following it.....just no real soul.......no real feeling....so it kinda kills it when he takes lead....IMHO....

i think "my diane" stands out as the best......but i really do like "sweet sunday"....but that's my carl....he can make a crappy song gold...with that gorgeous voice...and i think sweet sunday isn't really crappy to begin with...its' sweet....i like it.  as for the other songs......yeah...there's alot of throwaways.....but hey...he's my bri bri....i forgive him....i always do. i'm just biased. 5. Some good songs, some awful ones.

She's Got rhythm: Nice up tempo opener. 6.5 out of 10.

Come Go With Me: A decent cover but still not as good as their older older. 6 out of 10.

Hey, Little Tomboy: Adult/Child track. Quite creepy  Grin. 5 out of 10.

Kona Coast: Nice but a little hokey. 5.5 out of 10.

Peggy Sue: Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! The bad covers are back! 3 out of 10.

Wontcha Come Out Tonight?: Not bad. Like the back vocals. 6 out of 10.

Sweet Sunday Kinda Love: Decent song sung by Carl. 5.5 out of 10.

Belles of Paris: Another "Christmas album" song (Kona Coast being the other.) Doesn't impress me. 4.5 out of 10.

Pitter Patter: Who writes these terrible vocals? 4 out of 10.

My Diane: Not one of Brian's best vocals (or is this Dennis. Can't tell) 4.5 out of 10.

Matchpoint of Our Love: Decent love song. 5 out of 10.

Winds of Change. Decent closer. 5.5 out of 10.

You kinow, despite the perecption that this was Al and Mike's album, most of the stinkers here have BW's name attached to them - of course, so do the two good songs!

The MIU record is mostly professionally done but has zero inspiration. From a period when Mike Love tried to levitate through TM and Carl and Dennis were floating via other means. There are worse records, but who would ever want to hear them?    *
